Claimants Lose Bid to Reopen Garlock; Committee Alleged Fraudulent Behavior

The committee representing asbestos claimants in Garlock Sealing Technologies LLC’s asbestos bankruptcy won’t have a chance to reargue the case after a federal bankruptcy court denied their motion to reopen, an attorney for Garlock told Bloomberg BNA Dec. 5 (In re Garlock Sealing Techs. LLC, Bankr. W.D.N.C., In re Garlock Sealing Techs. LLC, Bankr. W.D.N.C., No. 10-31607).

The committee sought to reopen the record of the estimation proceeding that was the basis for the court’s rejection of the claimants’ $1.3 billion liability estimate in favor of Garlock’s $125 million figure.
