Carrier Corp. and four other companies were cleared by a Pennsylvania jury of asbestos exposure claims brought by the estate of a heating and air conditioning worker.
The jury ruled in favor of the companies—Carrier, Burnham LLC, Hajoca Corp., Lennox Industries and Rheem Manufacturing Co.—on negligence and design defect allegations (Horst v. Union Carbide Corp., Pa. Ct. Com. Pl., No. 15-cv-1903, 11/15/17).
The estate of Robert Horst Jr. alleged that his occupational exposure to asbestos in the companies’ products while doing plumbing and HVAC work caused him to develop mesothelioma.
