A crew member on a Carnival Corp. ship sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy during a cruise last year, a new federal complaint alleges. Such on-board assaults are on the rise.
The complaint, filed Oct. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, reflects an overall uptick in cruise line sexual assaults facilitated by inadequate background checks and reluctance by some passengers to report the incidents, lawyers tell Bloomberg Law.
From Jan. 1 to June 30 in this year alone, 39 sexual assaults on cruise ships were reported to the FBI, according to Department of Transportation data. ...
