Cablevision Overcharges Longtime Customers on Final Bill: Suit

Cablevision Systems Corp. was hit with a fraud lawsuit June 12 accusing the telecommunications giant of overcharging by refusing to prorate the final bills of customers who signed up for its Optimum service before October 2016.

That’s when the company, then recently acquired by Altice USA Inc., adopted a new policy making cancellations effective only at the end of a billing cycle, according to the proposed class action filed in New York federal court. Optimum is the brand name of its phone, cable, and internet service for consumers.
