Brita Products Co. convinced a federal judge to dismiss a proposed class action alleging the company misleads buyers into thinking its water filters removes hazardous contaminants or reduces them to below detectable limits.
The product labels say “the filters will ‘reduce’ the contaminants—and do—without any guarantee that they are completely removed,” Judge Dolly M. Gee of the US District Court for the Central District of California said Sept. 30. “There is no information in Brita’s labeling that would be likely to mislead a reasonable consumer,” she added.
