BP to Pay $2.6 Million to Settle Ohio Refinery Allegations

BP Products North America Inc. will pay $2.6 million to settle Clean Air Act and Superfund claims stemming from the operation of its Toledo, Ohio, refinery under a consent decree filed Wednesday in the Northern District of Ohio.

BP agreed to pay $1,425,000 to the U.S. government and the sum of $200,000 to Ohio as civil penalties for Clean Air Act and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act violations.

The company will also pay $75,000 as a civil penalty for Superfund violations, and $900,000 in stipulated penalties for violations of a 2001 consent decree at the refinery.
