Boston Scientific Must Face Suit Over Blood-Clot Filter

Boston Scientific Corp. will have to face an Illinois woman’s suit alleging she was harmed by a blood-clot trapping filter.

Patricia McDowell asserted plausible claims that Boston Scientific’s Greenfield Filter was defectively designed and that the company failed to warn doctors about risks associated with its permanent nature, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois said.

The filter is placed into the inferior vena cava (IVC), the largest vein in the body, to catch blood clots that have broken loose from a deep vein in the legs. It prevents clots from traveling to the heart or lungs. ...
