Blair Academy Must Face Suit Over Teen’s Death in Skiing Crash

New Jersey’s Blair Academy must face claims in court that its ski coach ordered an unqualified 15-year-old student to ski down a “black diamond” slope causing her death, according to a Pennsylvania appeals court.

The complaint alleges that “notwithstanding her lack of ability,” the head coach of the boarding school’s ski team told the student, identified as J. DiDonato, to ski down Ski Shawnee’s Lower Tomahawk Trail on Jan. 9, 2017.

Blair Academy required all students to participate in an organized sport, and the coach allowed her to join, despite her limited skiing abilities, the complaint alleges.
