Becton Dickinson, Sterigenics Face Ethylene Oxide Suits (1)

Becton Dickinson and Co., and Sterigenics US LLC were hit with suits by plaintiffs alleging their exposure to ethylene oxide, a chemical used to sterilize medical instruments, caused them to develop cancer.

Two of the plaintiffs allege exposure to ethylene from the Sterigenics plant in Smyrna, Ga., while two others allege exposure from the Becton Dickinson/CR Bard Inc. facility in Covington, Ga.

Davina Brewer alleges she lived near the Sterigenics facility from 2000 until 2020. She alleges she developed breast cancer as result of ethylene oxide emissions from Strigenics’ plant.
