Bard $3.3 Million Verdict Upheld in Blood-Clot Filter Case

C.R. Bard Inc. and Bard Peripheral Vascular Inc. failed to topple a $3.3 million award to a surgical nurse whose blood-clot trapping filter broke, as a Wisconsin federal court in Wisconsin said evidence supported the jury’s finding that the companies didn’t properly warn her surgeon.

Natalie Johnson had a Bard Meridian filter placed in her inferior vena cava in 2013 after she was treated for blood clots. An IVC filter is placed in the inferior vena cava, the largest vein of the body, to catch blood clots and prevent them from traveling from the legs to the heart or lungs. ...
