Baffert Beats Gambler Suit Over Medina Spirit Disqualification

Racehorse trainer Bob Baffert isn’t liable to disgruntled gamblers who bet on the second place horse in the 2021 Kentucky Derby even though Baffert’s first-place finisher, Medina Spirit, was disqualified for using a performance enhancing drug, a federal court said.

The gamblers’ claims under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act are foreclosed by Kentucky law and are too speculative, Judge Claria Horn Boom said Dec. 13 for the US District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
