Apple Sued by Customers Over Right to Repair Their Own Devices

Class-action lawsuit alleges that customers who seek to do their own repairs are threatened with loss of warranty coverage and are refused service by Apple.

  • Complaint also says Apple withholds parts, tools and repair manuals and disparages independent repair shops and after-market parts
  • Complaint was originally filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court and was transfered Wednesday to federal court in San Jose, California
  • Note: Apple in November announced a self-service repair program that provides access to parts and tools for customers comfortable doing their own repairs
