Amazon Suit Advances Alleging Battery Caused Fire, Harmed Family

Amazon.com Services LLC must face strict liability and negligence claims over an allegedly defective lithium battery that exploded, causing a fire that displaced a family for two months and severely injuring a mother and child, a California federal court said.

Danine Diew, who bought an Aeiusny battery on Amazon’s website that was sold by a company called Aeiusny, provided enough detail about the alleged defects, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said.

Diew alleged the battery failed because of overheating, pressure, electric-current issues, and impurities in its electrolyte solutions.
