Advanced Micro Devices Defeats Processing-Speed Claims

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. no longer faces key consumer claims alleging security-related fixes in its units slowed computer processing.

The consumers’ latest complaint suffers from a fatal flaw, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said April 4. It doesn’t name the specific security threat, malicious software called Spectre, that was at the center of the processor owners’ previous complaint, the court said.

“Plaintiffs must rely on Spectre because it is the only identified security vulnerability affecting AMD’s processors, but Plaintiffs must also disclaim any reliance on Spectre” because of timing issues that would derail their claims, ...
