A man who suffered spinal cord injuries after falling out of an inversion table will be able to keep the case in Alabama state court, after a federal court said Academy Sports & Outdoors’ potential liability meant it lacked jurisdiction.
The federal court said little state case law has addressed retailer liability for defective products under the Alabama statute at issue.
Inversion tables are devices that use gravity to reduce pressure on the user’s spine. Users insert their feet into a locking mechanism at the bottom of the table, then pivot the table so they’re lying upside down.
