$7 Million Deal Reached in Bertolli Olive Oil Label Suit

The maker of Bertolli olive oil has agreed to a $7 million nationwide settlement to resolve allegations it misled consumers by labeling olive oil “Imported from Italy” and “Extra Virgin.”

Suit was filed in 2014 and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California certified two classes of California consumers in August 2017.

Because of the litigation, Deoleo USA Inc. has already removed the phrase “Imported from Italy” from its products. It also has agreed to refrain from using phrases such as “Made in Italy” unless the oil is entirely made from olives grown and pressed in Italy, ...
