$184 Million Hernia Patch Settlement Announced

C.R. Bard Inc. has agreed in principle to pay $184 million to settle 2,600 state and federal suits over Composix Kugel mesh hernia patches manufactured by its subsidiary Davol Inc., plaintiffs’ law firm Motley Rice announced July 6. Plaintiffs have alleged the products—used in hernia repair procedures—caused medical complications including bowel perforation, sepsis, intestinal fistulas and abdominal abscess formation. “The resolution comes on the eve of multiple trials set for the summer and fall in both state and federal courts,” Donald Migliori of Motley Rice said in a statement.
