US Investor Said to Pay 70% Premium for Benfica Stake (1)

US investor Entrepreneur Equity Partners has agreed to buy a minority stake in Portuguese football club Benfica at a steep premium, according to a person familiar with the matter.

José António dos Santos, Benfica’s second-largest shareholder, together with his family’s poultry producer Grupo Valouro, agreed to sell his 16.38% stake for about €10-11 per share on April 23, the person said. At the upper end, the price is about 70% higher than the prior day’s close of €6.46.

Benfica shares rose as much as 21% to a record €7.98 in Lisbon on Tuesday and were up 18% at 12:32 p.m. ...
