Private Credit Could Help US Lower Its Deficit, HPS’ Puri Says

With the Trump administration touting a lofty goal of balancing the government’s budget, private credit lenders like HPS Investment Partners are willing to help with funding.

The government needs more capital to finance areas such as infrastructure and the energy transition, especially as the US population ages, Purnima Puri, a governing partner and portfolio manager for public credit at HPS, said during a panel at the Bloomberg Invest conference on Wednesday. That need is driving interest from private credit players, and other alternative sources of capital, Puri added.
