Laffont’s Coatue Starts Fintech, Smart-Transportation Funds

Coatue Management, whose flagship hedge fund soared 53% this year through November, is starting two new technology-themed funds.

Coatue FinTech Fund I and Coatue Smart Transportation Fund I will invest in both public stocks and private companies, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Fintech refers to technologies used to enhance or digitize financial services, while smart transportation covers advancements in mobility such as self-driving vehicles.

The move continues the tech-heavy investment focus at Philippe Laffont’s firm, but allows clients to wager specifically on these themes.
