Phelan Steps Down as CIO of Michael Dell’s Family Office (1)

John Phelan stepped down as chairman and chief investment officer of MSD Capital, the firm he co-founded more than two decades ago to manage Michael Dell’s family fortune.

Phelan, 58, relinquished those roles as of June 30 “to focus on his personal investment and philanthropic interests,” according to a regulatory filing earlier this month. He’s now listed on the firm’s website as chairman emeritus.

The filing was made by MSD Partners, an affiliate that offers some of the family office’s strategies to outside investors. Neither MSD entity lists a new CIO.
