Goldman Sachs Group Inc’s Cai Wei will retire after eight years at the Wall Street bank as co-head of China, according to an internal memo, after helping steer the bank through the country’s boom years, regulatory crackdowns and repeated market downturns.

Cai, 59, who was also global vice chairman of investment banking and co-head of China investment banking, has helped develop and execute the bank’s strategy in Asia during his tenure, according to the memo confirmed by a spokesman. Cai has worked alongside Sean Fan, chairman of the securities entity in China, who joined the firm in 2004. ...
