Francisco in Talks for Canadian Payments Firm Moneris, FT Says

US private equity group Francisco Partners is in talks to buy Canadian payments processor Moneris, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter who weren’t identified.

A deal could value Moneris — a joint venture of Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal — at as much as $2 billion and may come together by the summer, although talks have dragged on, according to the report.

Francisco Partners and Moneris didn’t respond to the FT’s requests for comment. Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal declined to comment to the newspaper.
