Carlyle Takes Over Barclay Family’s Online Retailer Very (1)

Carlyle Group Inc. has taken control of the Very Group, the latest asset to be stripped from the Barclay family’s once-sprawling business empire.

The transaction has been completed and the US investment firm, which had previously lent money to the business, is now the owner, according to a statement by Very Group on Monday.

The transaction will provide the digital retailer with “a strengthened capital base and enhanced financial flexibility,” the statement said. Abu Dhabi investment fund International Media Investments, a fellow creditor with Carlyle, remains a key skakeholder in the business.
