Zoom to Pay $85 Million in Deal Over User Privacy, ‘Zoombombing’

Zoom Video Communications Inc. will pay $85 million in a deal with consumers who alleged that it improperly shared their data through third-party software from companies like Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn.

The plaintiffs, representing a class of 150 million, also allege that Zoom misled consumers about encryption security and failed to protect private meetings from being disrupted by hacking attacks known as “zoombombings.”

The settlement was approved Thursday by Judge Laurel Beeler of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
