WW, Kid-Focused Subsidiary Settle FTC’s Child Privacy Claims

WW International Inc. and its subsidiary that operates an online weight management program for kids agreed to pay $1.5 million to resolve Federal Trade Commission allegations that the company violated a children’s privacy law.

Kurbo Inc. markets to children as young as eight years old through its app and website, and collected data about them without asking their parents’ permission, as required by the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA, the commission alleged in a California federal court complaint.
