The Wisconsin Assembly has passed a broad consumer data privacy measure, but it’s unclear whether lawmakers will finish work on the bill before their legislative session ends in March.
Wisconsin’s Assembly Bill 957, approved Wednesday on a 59-37 vote, would give consumers the right to know what personal data is being collected about them and ask that it be corrected or deleted. The bill lacks a private right of action, meaning consumers wouldn’t have the right to sue for alleged violations.
