Western Digital Gets Claims Trimmed in Hard-Drive Hack Lawsuit

Western Digital Corp. won dismissal of most claims in a proposed class action alleging it failed to protect the personal information of hard-drive users that was exposed in a June 2021 cyberattack.

Kevin Riordan, Ashley Laurent, Jeremy Bobo, and Nagui Sorial alleged that they lost valuable personal information after cybercriminals exploited a vulnerability in Western Digital storage devices to delete or render inaccessible the information stored on them.

Information lost as a result of the attack included personal photos, information relating to users’ work and businesses, immigration status, and financial information, according to the plaintiffs’ second amended complaint.
