Western Digital Escapes Proposed Data Hack Class Action, For Now

Western Digital Corp. convinced a federal court in California to dismiss a proposed class action over a data breach of two of its cloud storage devices because the customers who sued failed to allege they were harmed.

Without allegations of actual harm after a third-party hacked the cloud storage devices, individuals who purchased Western Digital’s My Book Live and My Book Live Duo have no standing to sue, the US District Court for the Northern District of California ruled Tuesday.
