Wells Fargo Sued for Breach That Exposed Social Security Numbers

Wells Fargo Bank is responsible for a 2021 data breach that exposed the sensitive data, including Social Security numbers, of thousands of customers, according to a proposed class action filed in federal court in San Francisco.

Brent Carey alleged that the bank failed to properly safeguard customer data, leading to a breach that also compromised names, contact information, and dates of birth. Carey claims that Wells Fargo has suffered multiple data breaches in recent years, but still took five months to inform him and the proposed class that their data had been stolen.
