Website Operators Agree to Settle FTC Data Security Claims

Operators of a website for a kids’ dress-up game and an online rewards website have agreed to settle separate Federal Trade Commission claims that the companies didn’t take reasonable steps to secure users’ data, the agency said.

The orders highlight the commission’s thinking and expectations for how companies should handle data. In an April 24 statement about the two actions, the FTC said the orders directed at the two companies “go beyond requirements from previous data security orders,” pointing to senior officers’ obligations to provide certification compliance to the commission each year, among other tasks.
