Watson Clinic LLP is set to pay $10 million to resolve allegations the Florida-based medical center’s negligence led to the improper release of personal and medical data, according to a preliminarily approved settlement.
The data breach included pre- and post-operative medically necessary images from Watson’s current and former patients, as well as government identifiers and financial information, according to court documents from the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Members of the over-280,000-person class whose personal or sensitive images were posted to the dark web would automatically recover more from the settlement fund than others.
