Washington Defeats Google’s Bid to Kill Location Privacy Suit

Google failed to a persuade a state court judge to toss out Washington’s lawsuit claiming the technology giant secretly collects user location data for targeted advertising, Bob Ferguson, the state’s attorney general said on Twitter Friday.

  • Washington accused Alphabet Inc.’s Google in a complaint in January of using various deceptive and unfair practices to obtain users’ “consent” to be tracked online
  • A group of state attorneys general, including Texas, Indiana and Washington D.C., have also filed similar complaints against Google in their respective state courts over user location data
