Voluntary Cybersecurity Framework Set; Obama Calls for Congressional Follow-Up

The White House Feb. 12 unveiled the final version of a voluntary framework designed to arm critical parts of the private sector—such as banks and telecommunications providers—against mounting cyberthreats, while renewing calls for Congress to move forward on legislation to build on the project.

The framework, which was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), consists of cybersecurity standards that can be customized to various sectors and adapted by both large and small organizations, according to the administration.
