Virgin Media says personal information of about 900,000 people stored on one of its databases had been accessed without permission, according to a company statement.
- The database, which was incorrectly configured and allowed unauthorized access, was accessible since April 2019 until 28 February 2020
- Incident wasn’t a result of hacking; the database didn’t have insufficient protection, company says
- The database was accessed on at least one occasion but it’s unclear what’s the extent of the access or if any information was actually used
- Virgin Media has shut down access to the database and started a full investigation
