Vermont Loses Summary Judgment Bid in Clearview Privacy Case

Vermont failed to convince a state court that Clearview AI Inc.'s use of facial recognition violated consumer protections as a judge denied the state’s motion for summary judgment.

Whether Clearview violated the Vermont Consumer Protection Act by scraping the internet for photos of state residents to supply its facial recognition database without their consent cannot be determined by filings alone, said the opinion filed Tuesday in Vermont Superior Court.
