Verkada Settles FTC Probe of Hack Exposing Tesla, Hospitals (1)

Surveillance company Verkada Inc. settled a US government investigation into a security breach that allowed hackers access to live feeds and archived videos of customers including Tesla Inc. and psychiatric hospitals.

The Federal Trade Commission had been probing the security incident and other alleged lapses, including positive Google Maps reviews posted by employees and a venture capital investor who didn’t disclose conflicts of interest.

A group of hackers said in 2021 that they breached a massive trove of security-camera data collected by Verkada, gaining access to live feeds of 150,000 surveillance cameras inside hospitals, companies, police departments, prisons and schools. ...
