Vending Machine Fingerprint Privacy Case Gets New Illinois Venue

A vending machine company will have to face privacy violation claims in an Illinois state court after a federal judge remanded the case for lack of standing.

Compass Group USA allegedly collected plaintiff Christine Bryant’s fingerprint data without her written permission, in violation of an Illinois law, so that she could use its vending machines, she said in her state court complaint.

Compass successfully transferred the case to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Bryant sought to move it back to state court because she lacked standing to pursue the claims in the federal venue. U.S. ...
