Vattenfall Europe Gets $1m German Data Protection Fine

Vattenfall Europe was fined about $1 million in Germany for encroaching on the privacy rights of some 500,000 people between August 2018 and December 2019.

• Hamburg Data Protection Authority in statement Friday says company violated transparency rules under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation
• Authority’s acting head, Ulrich Kuehn, says Vattenfall cooperated extensively and stopped the disputed practice of comparing old and new data on customers without their knowledge as soon as the regulator started looking into this, leading to a cut in the fine
