US Commerce Department is weighing an enforcement action against Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter.

  • The Biden administration considered imposing sanctions against Kaspersky Lab a year earlier but ultimately opted not to after resistance from some US officials: WSJ
  • Any enforcement action from the Commerce Department will need to be narrowly tailored to prohibit the firm’s software under specific contexts, such as its use in computer networks operating critical infrastructure, the report says
