University of Illinois Ordered to End Hoops Player’s Suspension

University of Illinois basketball player Terrence Shannon Jr. won an injunction requiring that the school end his suspension from the team based on sexual assault allegations.

Shannon is entitled to an injunction because he showed he’s likely to succeed on the merits of his civil rights claim under 42 U.S.C. §1983, alleging his suspension deprived him of a constitutional right without dues process.

Shannon was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a bar in Kansas in September 2023. The school issued a temporary suspension in December, after learning he had been charged with felony rape and misdemeanor sexual battery, ...
