The University of Hawaii has agreed to settle a state class action lawsuit brought on behalf of approximately 98,000 individuals whose data were affected in five data breaches between 2009 and 2011 throughout the university system, according to a motion for preliminary approval of class action settlement filed Jan. 30 in the Hawaii First Circuit Court (Gross v. Univ. of Haw., Haw. Cir. Ct., No. 11-1-1217-06 PWB).
The proposed settlement agreement is subject to court approval. It requires the university to pay for two years of credit monitoring and fraud restoration services for each of the class members. ...
