Insurance underwriters and brokers said they have seen tangible benefits from implementation of the National Institute for Standards and Technology’s cybersecurity framework, particularly that the framework created a common vernacular for discussing cyber risk management.
Underwriters are able to use the 2014 framework to better communicate to companies what they’re lacking in cybersecurity and brokers are able to advise companies about what they need to do to better secure their systems, officials from insurance and insurance brokerage companies said at a National Institute for Standards (NIST) panel at the agency’s 2016 workshop on the framework.
