UNC Health Southeastern and its administrative-services vendor Signature Performance Inc. failed to protect the personal information of thousands of people that was exposed in a January data breach, a proposed federal class action said.
Lea Jacobs alleged that UNC Health Southeastern, a hospital based in Lumberton, N.C., and Signature Performance breached their duties under common law, HIPPA, and the Federal Trade Commission Act to implement reasonable data-security measures and properly monitor their networks.
