Uber, California Lawyers Strike Deal to Avoid Ballot Battles

Uber Technologies Inc. and the Consumer Attorneys of California struck an eleventh hour deal to avoid a costly ballot fight in November that would have seen California voters decide a pair of competing measures addressing passenger sexual assaults and contingency legal fees.

The ride share giant and the CAOC, an organization representing plaintiff-side lawyers, said in a joint statement that Uber would beef up safety measures to protect passengers while personal injury attorneys would have limits placed on medical expenses paid in Uber or Lyft car crash cases.
