Toshiba Subsidiary Sued Over Data Breach Lasting Three Months

Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. failed to protect the personal information of consumers and employees that was exposed over a three-month period when a cybercriminal gained access to its email system, a proposed federal class action said.

Kyle McDaniel alleged that Toshiba America breached its duties under common law, industry standards, and Federal Trade Commission guidelines to implement reasonable and adequate measures to protect sensitive data.

Information exposed in the breach included names and Social Security numbers, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
