TikTok Inc.'s software is “entirely separate” from the Chinese version of its app, the company’s security chief said, as the company seeks to thwart the U.S. government from blocking the app’s use.
Roland Cloutier, TikTok’s global chief security officer, told a D.C. federal court in a filing Wednesday that the software split means its source code and user data are maintained separately from that of Chinese counterpart Douyin.
Cloutier also asserted that TikTok wouldn’t comply with a Chinese government request for U.S. user data, though so far “there has never been” such a request.
