ByteDance Ltd.'s TikTok is opening a Washington office later this year to share information about security practices as lawmakers question its protections for children’s privacy and its ties to China.
The company said Tuesday it also plans to hire an additional 100 workers for security, data, and privacy protection by the end of the year and to create “a centralized global security function” based in the U.S.
“This will ensure consistency, availability, and faster responses to emerging global issues and threats to our users and platform,” Roland Cloutier, TikTok’s chief information security officer, wrote on the company’s website.
