TikTok, Parent Company Hit With Suit Over Data Collection (1)

TikTok Inc’s video social networking app surreptitiously collected personal information from children under 13 without parental consent, a pair of plaintiffs alleged in a lawsuit filed in an Illinois federal court.

TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance Technology Co Ltd., collected and disclosed information and viewing data, including lip-syncing videos, of minor children that used the companies’ Musical.ly app, and sold it to third-party advertisers, according to a a Dec. 3 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
