TikTok Is Working on a US Copy of App’s Algorithm, Reuters Says

TikTok is working on a clone of its viral video-sharing app’s recommendation algorithm for US users that may result in a version that operates independently of Chinese parent ByteDance Ltd., Reuters reported, citing unidentified people with direct knowledge of the efforts.

The app’s effort to separate the code behind the recommendation algorithm was ordered by ByteDance last year, before the emergence of a bill in US Congress to require a sale or ban of TikTok’s US operations, Reuters said. That bill became a law in April, and ByteDance sued the US government over the legislation.
